Broker

The MQTT Dashboard utilizes the HiveMQ MQTT broker. You can use any MQTT client or library to publish to the broker.

With our free, fully managed MQTT Cloud Platform HiveMQ Cloud you can create reliable, scalable and secure MQTT cloud-broker clusters that are built for production. Sign up and you are ready to connect up to 100 IoT devices at no cost (no credit card required).

Getting Started

If you are new to MQTT and want to know how it works take a look at the MQTT Essentials which explains all the basics in a very digestible manner.

You can use our MQTT Websocket client to publish and subscribe to the broker. A list of assorted MQTT client tools with tutorials about their features can be found in the MQTT Toolbox.

If you want to use MQTT in your software project you can take a look at the MQTT Client Library Encyclopedia, which contains a range of HowTos on MQTT client libraries for different programming languages.

Warning! ⚠️

By accessing the MQTT broker, you represent that you have read and accepted the following:

  • The purpose of this free MQTT broker is for you to learn about and test the MQTT protocol, it must not be used in Production, Dev, Staging or UAT environments.
  • Please consider adding a reconnect logic to your client (the following blog post helps you to understand the basics).
  • HiveMQ does not commit to an uptime percentage and may update the underlying HiveMQ instances of this MQTT broker at any time which may lead to message loss.
  • Further, HiveMQ retains the right to disconnect clients at any time or ban users from accessing this MQTT broker in the future.
  • To the extent legally permissible, HiveMQ makes no representation as to the functionality of this MQTT broker (such as performance, bandwidth or latency) nor gives any guarantees or provides warranties. All liability is excluded.
  • Please note that this MQTT broker can be used by anyone, therefore it is strongly advised not to feed any sensitive information or personal data into the system.
  • Any illegal use of this MQTT broker is strictly forbidden.
  • By using this MQTT broker you warrant that you are not a sanctioned person nor are you located in a country that is subject to sanctions.
  • It is strictly forbidden to use this MQTT broker to circumvent any commercial agreement that is in place between HiveMQ and yourself or the company you are acting for.

This public broker is a simple way to get started with MQTT, but it doesn't reflect the full power or reliability of our enterprise solutions. For real-world MQTT deployments, careful planning and sizing are important.
