What are scripts?

vim online allows users to upload scripts that help enhance vim. There are many types of scripts: syntax scripts enable syntax higlighting, color scheme scripts set the theme of your vim colors, indent scripts allow for advanced indenting functionality and utility scripts can add a wide range of features from spell checking to IDE macros.

How do I install scripts?

Utility scripts need to be "sourced" from your vimrc (:help source) or in 6.0 you can just add the scripts to the plugin directory. Syntax files should be saved in the syntax directory. 6.0 supports indent scripts which should be saved in the indent directory and color scheme scripts which need to be sourced from your vimrc.

(v1.0.15) - MatchParen: Make matching parentheses more visible. Once I had MatchUp always active and was distracted by the flickering of a lot of matching pairs. So I made the highlight of matching pairs very subtle in tortusless. But since my current solution is to use :DoMatchParen and :NoMatchParen to stop any flickering, that's not needed any more and a more aggressive highlight is reasonable. - Patrick Meiser-Knosowski

(18/03/2026) - It was found that errors can be generated as the function selx#SelXSave() iterates through the tabs to save the session; autocommands can be triggered which can throw up errors. Addressed the problem by disabling autocommands as this loop runs. The odd thing is that SelX iterates through the tabs in several other places in the code seemingly without errors being generated, so it could be related to the state vim is in when the session is being saved? As a precaution, disabled autocmds in all other cases where it iterates through the tabs - Changed some 'normal! gt` commnds to 'tabnext' (not sure why I was using the former) - Changes to this README file - changed example code for implementing status bar display. Added a 'quick start' section - Added `g:SelxlistFree` option - Modified selx#SetShowSelX() to accept a flag to force a redraw of the status bar. This is used in several places as I found that on some istallations, reg status bar redraw is not as timely as I would like it to be - Richard Bentley-Green
