wireless network not detected in ubuntu but the same is being detected on windows successfully

sir.I have configured wifi on windows xp...it uses proxy address,dns and gateway...but in ubuntu it is not getting detected...pls mail me a procedure so that issue can be resolved successfully in ubuntu 10.04......also how to enable wireless networking in case it is disabled.............
