About the Program
Study the world’s universal language and advance your career with a Master of Science in Mathematics from Case Western Reserve University, one of the top research universities in the U.S. Math plays a central role in the physical, biological, economic and social sciences—and advanced knowledge of math is valued in almost every industry. It’s also a cornerstone of many research and scientific endeavors. You’ll come away from our program prepared for private sector employment in areas such as financial services, computer science, governmental organizations, applied research, education and more.
What to Expect
You can complete our program in two years if you study full time. Here, you’ll complete a minimum of 30 credit hours, taking classes on topics such as abstract algebra, complex analysis, algebraic topology and differential geometry, to name a few.
During your program, you’ll have the option to complete a comprehensive oral examination in three areas, or substitute that requirement with an expository or original thesis, which will count as six credit hours of coursework. If you choose the latter route, you’ll defend your thesis through an oral examination, at which time you’ll be questioned about the thesis and related topics.
