CBS News - Fire TV

I purchased an Fire TV because it was reasonable. I am so delighted that I did as I am able to get so many programs free. I have been frustrated and disenchanted with the high cost of the streaming formats. Also, I could not certain programs, including the Football championship on my other tvs. But I got in on my Fire TV.

One of the downsides of the move from traditional cable/satellite to streaming is that everyone and their mother now feels the need to have their own streaming service -- and few are willing to put in the time and effort (or money) to make it a truly great, worthwhile product (at least at an affordable cost). We got this because we are tired of the typical CNN "Let's bring in random people to talk about everything" method of "news" these days. I truly miss the days when the 24-hour news cycle did NOT exist. This is free and decent. Give it a try. You can always delete it.

Something is very seriously wrong on the Fire TV. I'm getting audio but no video. I see from the various reviewers that scads of viewers of this app on the Fire TV are having this problem. Has there been any word from anyone, either the Fire TV folks or the CBS folks, about what's going on here and what we need to do to get this working again??? I've been watching this app on Fire TV for months and never had a problem. And this problem is not occurring with the CBS News app on my phone or in my computer browser. Oh, so you say it must be a Fire TV problem? I'm saying no, because there's not a single other app on my Fire TV that's suffering from this problem.

I found a page where you can report the problem to CBS News. Everyone should pile on and bury them with complaints. I get the very strong impression the powers that be are completely unaware of this problem. The CBS News feedback page is at http://audienceservices.cbs.com/feedback/feedback.htm . And before you say that has nothing to do with CBS News, look at the form on that page. There is a field, called Choose Category. In that category, they list the CBSN Streaming News Service. That is our category. Folks, let's pile on; clearly they have not gotten the message!

In addition, after further rummaging, I also found an email address we can use to report issues like this. The email address is CBSN-support@cbsinteractive.com .

If I would have known how great the fire stick was, I would have bought one along time ago. Saves money on TV Programs that you buy and pay for every month. You get tons of movies and cartoons for the kits and family movies. For those who like to see sports, this is a dream come true. You can also see the News all day long if you like that. Forgot the one I mostly like is the TV series. They have something for everyone. I love it and you will too.

This is a review of CBS News app for Fire TV.

Unlike CBS All Access, which requires a monthly subscription fee after the free trial, the CBS News app is free. It gives me access to CBS Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes and a Live news feed. You also have access to Face The Nation, CBS This Morning, 48 Hours, and the Evening News. Other categories come and go but right now as I write my review there are the following additional categories: President-Elect Donald Trump, Holiday Financial Guide, Big Pot, 60 Minutes VR, CBS News Election Film Vault and Popular.

Unfortunately you are only able to view the previous weeks' episode for things like 60 Minutes or Sunday Morning since there is no archive available. But since the app is free I can't complain too much.

The video qualtiy is excellent. You do get ads running between stories. I don't mind the ads too much but what does bother me is that the same ad or same couple ads run over and over and over if you watch for a while.

My wife and I enjoy watching CBS News in the mornings as we are getting ready for work, drinking our coffee and starting our day. The TV service at our vacation house in OBX wasn't on... however we had WiFi. We used this APP on our Amazon Fire Stick and it was perfect. We also used several other apps available on the Fire Stick while away. EXCELLENT!

We did however find that... because it is a 24/7/365 streaming news app that after the normal programming was over it would repeat that programming... BUT... it also broke from that to give up to the minute and "Break News" bulletins so it's a negative... with a positive!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The news, all the newscasters are great. Yes, it repeats every hour, more or less. But they break in for breaking news, and show the entire Press Conference by Sean Spicer. HOWEVER. Only on the Fire Stick....there are constant glitches, constant bloopers, picture and sound are completely un-synchronized. To the point of being unwatchable.

On our computers with Windows 10, and on the Apple iPad, it's great, a smooth flow. Why it's soooooo bad on the Fire Stick is unknown to me. Everything else plays great on the Fire Stick. We have Acorn, Netflix, CBS All Access, various other news apps, and of course the Amazon Prime plays beautifully as well.

Something in CBSNews just doesn't jive with the Fire Stick on our television. I wish they'd DO SOMETHING about it!

EDIT: Still today, June29th, 2017...........for awhile CBSN improved, but the last week or so it is worse than ever! Repeats the same bit 6 or 7 times. Abysmal. ABYSMAL!

Edit August 18, 2017: it never cleared up, in desperation we bought a Roku Stick, the least expensive one. We have had it on for 7 hours, with NO slips, no repeating, and no stumbling, and much easier to use. One click, that's all it took.

I took a look at my cable bill and it started to look more like a car payment each month. I cut the cable with trepedation. Do it! If you are a CBS News fan, this is a very good app. I watch the morning news anytime after the NY market airs. It has actually worked out well for me as I am watching that broadcast about a half hour before it air in CT. I am glad I cut the cable and happy with this application

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this app is not only good to catch up on the news - there are quite a few shows you can stream as well (crime and news type shows). Also, there is no need for a service provider.

Sehr gut das es die App gibt. In den USA laufen Sachen, die für sind aus (fast) erster Hand zu erfahren.

Une bonne application qui permet d'avoir les infos en direct des USA , vous pouvez choisir la ville que vous voulez , Dallas , new york , Los Angeles , etc...il y'a du choix .

Bien sûr c'est en Anglais , CBS est un réseau de chaînes aux USA , qui a signé un partenariat avec Amazon pour être disponible sur la fire stick tv.

Si comme moi , vous vous intéressez à tout ce qui se passe aux USA , indispensable , surtout avec les élections présidentielles en Novembre , il y'a aussi des shows que vous pouvez revoir en replay.
