There are currently 21,387 of such images in the Commons repository which is roughly 0.016% of the available images (137,898,659). All featured images are entered into our annual Picture of the Year competition. You may wish to browse the profiles of individual photographers, illustrators, and restorationists within the Commons community who have contributed a substantial portion of our featured pictures.

Images may be considered for featured status by being listed at Commons:Featured picture candidates, where the community will reach a consensus. An image only appears one time in the galleries. You can find all featured pictures in Category:Featured pictures on Wikimedia Commons.
