Something I was discussing with somebody a few days ago - being an awesome fingerpicker is more useful than being an awesome plectrum player. After all, there are more techniques that are applicable to fingerpicking than plectrum playing - someone like Paco de Lucia can play 18 notes a second, but even the best of the plectrum fiends can't get any kind of useful bass/melody techniques, and there are a ton of specific techniques that don't translate with a pick.

What does everyone here think?

3. Years Playing- 1.2 (last time i wrote that i played 4 years but now i understand that i really started playing when i started jammin' with a band)
4. Favorite genre of music- Classic Rock, Electric blues, Hard blues.
5. Top 5 guitar songs- the Shed (Rainbow), Sunshine of Your Love (Cream), One Way Street (Aerosmith), Free Bird (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Heart Full of Soul (The Yardbirds).
6. Top 5 Favorite Guitarists(not bassists)- Ritchie Blackmore, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Uli Roth.
7. Equipment- Fender American Highway Strat with 2 Seymour&Duncan SSL-7 and 1 SDBR-2 split coil Duckbucker; VOX AC15; VOX cooltron Big Ben Overdrive.
8. Favorite guitar brand. Least favorite guitar brand. Why?- Favourite-Fender cause they all give amasing, very "juicy", purring sound; least favourite- Ibanez and BCRich: their guitars look like shit and the sound doesnt give no emotions.
9. Your ideal tone is...- Soft or hard but always deep and warm overdrive for dirty or very clear and presise a bit drived clean that my duckbucker gives.
10. 7 stringers, good or bad, why?- Me, i dont care, i just dont play them
11. Favorite scale?- I dont care about scales and i just know what pentatonic, blues scale and dorian mode are but they are not only ones i use;
12. Opinion on Mark Knopfler- I think he seams to be good but his solos not inough impressive.
13. Opinion of new music. (i.e. anything to be produced recently)- Not smth i really like
14. Opinion on Jimmy Page- i gave up listening to LZ 3 or 4 months ago 'cause i cant find nothing new in their music. Page is quite good guitarist but he's got poor fantasy on my humble oppinion. And i hate his concert sound.
15. Opinion of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani- Their techniche is perfect but even Vai said he's not musician, but just a guitarist. I think the same.
16. What do you think of Duane Allman?- He is probably ok but those musical emotions are not for me.
17. I never took guitar lessons and i will never do that. When someone teaches you to do something you loose the chanse to do it your own way and you loose your personality as a musician. Thats all.

Okay I hope it's cool to post this question. I've got more yes's than no's thus far so hopefully no one will mind. Here's my question. There is this really amazing guitar solo that David Gilmour does on his newest solo album. It's the outro for track 3: "The Blue". If anyone has heard this outro maybe you can answer this for me. How is he doing that? Is it just a simple case of double tracking a slide guitar and a normal guitar? Because I've seen a video of them playing part of this solo and every time he "slides" up 50 million frets, he's doing something with his whammy bar (and he doesn't have a slide on his pinky either). Now in the past, and quite by accident, if the settings were just right on my amplifier (proper distortion, overdrive, flange, etc) I could "squawk" a note and hit the whammy bar and get a similar effect. If you haven't heard the solo and don't want to be bothered to listen to it, and you've listened to The Division Bell by Pink Floyd, it's the same technique as on the song "Marooned". Hopefully someone can give me some insight into this.

Hey everyone, zero doing on this board right now.

Just wondering what guitar players or just music in general everyone is into right now?

Right now I'm revisiting my roots from The Allman Brothers and Eric Clapton and Derek and the Dominos and it reminds me as to why I listened to those people in the first place. So amazing.

I'm sorta moving out of listening to Crosby Stills Nash & Young, I've kinda learned what I needed to learn from them and soon it will be time to listen to something else.

i find him to be really different from most other guitarists of the 60s and 70s. he's not a guitar hero, and he's not just a rythym gutiarist.

so what is he?

i play a lot of cream and allman brothers, and i want to expand my technique, and his is pretty unique i'd say. i want to learn in his style, what do you guys think of this?

As some of you may or may not remember a couple days ago i posted asking how you felt about covers. you guys have swayed me into talking my band into building up a decent repetour (spelled right?) of songs that we can pull out for concerts etc if necessary or just for fun other wise....

So now i may ask, what songs would you suggest? we're a blues-rock band with a guitar, bass, drums, and vocals...but we may be adding a keyboard. right now im thinking dear mr fantasty- traffic, let it rain - derek and the dominoes, and peace frog- the doors. let it rain, and especially peace frog probably only a song we'd do if we got a keyboardist. i think right now we sound like the doors with no keyboard, thats a decent comparison i suppose, but the guitar is more like a blend of hendrix and many many others.

Now i turn to you, my fellow guitar players to offer as many suggestions as is bloody possible.

how do you guys feel about covers? my band wants to do no covers at all, and im saying man guys we arent above doing covers cream did sooo many covers. i mean i dont want to just do covers but a couple non-original songs would be fun. so any of you with bands, where do you and your band mates stand on this?

ok so this is for all of you with bands, what do you use to amp the vocals? is there a specific kind of vocal amp i need to have or what? cause at this point the mic has gone through guitar amps and bass amps and it isnt very loud at all, do i need a new mic? if so what kind? thanks in advance.

ok so i'm looking at getting a new pedal, mainly a fuzz distortion thing. the first thing i saw as i began my search was an arbiter fuzz face which seems to be something along the lines of what i want. im looking for like a hendrix clapton type fuzz. the next thing i saw was a voodoo lab octavia pedal, any thoughts on this one? im lookin to get a good hendrix fuzz, i already have a tubescreamer which does more normal distortion extremly well so dont preach to me bout that or ne thing that isnt a fuzz box, thanks.
Ok so any thoughts, opinions, experiences....¿are you experienced?
