I did not realize this but I looked at the liner notes to Pet Shop Boys' Nightlife this morning and stumbled across Craig Armstrong's name. It turns out he orchestrated and coproduced/coarranged several of their tracks. Specifically: Track 2 Closer to Heaven Track 5 You only tell me you love me when you're drunk Track 6 Vampires Track 8 The only one Track 10 In denial (a duet with Kylie Minogue) Track 12 Footsteps Seems like Craig Armstrong has a hand in a lot of music I like... |

What song led you to discover his music? For me, Weatherstorm from one of the Pure Moods series. It reminded me of another "storm" song by David Foster many years ago that I used to associate with a specific recurring nightmare that included a large water fountain gushing up in the air. Upon purchasing his older CD, The Space Between Us, I discovered I had heard his music before. As I listened, I did a double take hearing the Romeo and Juliet song as I had bought that soundtrack. That he later did the Moulin Rouge compositions was icing on the cake. |

First a hello to all the members this little community has found. Welcome to all. :) I think Craig's Piano Works CD makes terrific getting-ready-in-the-morning music. No annoying talk shows, no radio commercials, no music videos I don't want to see; just calming piano pieces. Lovely. Read earlier posts if you are trying to find this musical delight. The majority of the pieces are short, with the shortest at :33 seconds (Satine's Theme). The longest is the last one (at an undocumented 10 minutes and 14 seconds) which has several moments of silence and includes a gospel instrumental derivative of "Be Still My Soul", I think. To hear 30 second samples, look at earlier posts in this community for a link. |

Re: Let's Go Out Tonight (5:58) track 10 on The Space Between Us (1997) with vocalist Paul Buchanan This song is one that makes me realize how special relationships can be. When I hear it, I drift off to think about a man almost begging his lady fair to get out of the house and experience life with him, together. Now granted, I never listen close enough to actual lyrics to say definitively I know what a song is about, but I can share how a song makes me feel. Lyrics in songs are really a new instrument being played, the words as the notes that move the melody further into our understanding. I feel this is indicative of the rhyming typical in choruses. Yet when a song uses lyrics in a nonstandard stanza/chorus arrangement, it creates; it breaks through musical habit; it frees the music to simply be. This song does that. When I hear it, I feel it is "epic" in its emotional range. And this song always leaves me wanting more... |

Yay I love this community already! So firstly I have to say that Craig is one of my all time favorites! His music is so haunting and wonderful.. usually quite modern as well... I absolutley love "PM's Love Theme" from Love Actually... amazing song... whenever I listen to it my hands just start going and I start conducting the music... and looking like a comlete idiot as well, I'm sure... :D I also am loving "Lissa" from the movie Best Laid Plans... not only because my name is Lissa (how cool is that?) but because that song sends shivers up my spine... it's so amazing and, once again, haunting! Anyone with me? Are these songs great or what? |

As no specific community had yet acknowledged this musical talent, I decided to set up my first community. Feel free to join and comment on the music of Craig Armstrong. |
