IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a dead project. It should probably be deleted, but in the interests of...something, I'm leaving it alone. What follows is the Community Profile as it originally appeared (however please note that nothing will come of it):

Death Note FAQ, noun, a community for the organization and creation of a Death Note FAQ.

Death Note: is a manga written by by Tsugumi Ooba and drawn by Takeshi Obata (best known for Hikaru no Go). Death Note is currently running in Japan's "Weekly Jump" magazine. It has also been licensed for the American Market by Viz/ShoPro Entertainment, with the first volume to be released in English on October 10, 2005. Death Note is, basically, a supernatural thriller manga. It's well-written and well-drawn, and well worth your time. And perhaps when the FAQ goes up I'll have a better summary than that for you.

FAQ: stands for Frequesntly Asked Questions. Because if you've ever been to 👁 Image

, you already know that there are a lot of questions which are asked very frequently. (The most common of these is "where can I download the manga?" For the answer to that question, please see this post or vist deathnote.org. This isn't really that kind of FAQ.)

The main goal of this community is the creation of a website like this one. Of course, we'll never be able to match the sheer information overload of that site. (And honestly, why would we want to?) However! A simple, easily navigable layout, filled with whatever information we feel like filling it with, and probably also a few fun or entertaining asides. That's what we're aiming for.

MEMBERSHP

If you are a member of 👁 Image

, or have read and understood the manga, or can tranlate Japanese, or can search the web for information, or enjoy writing essays, or can code very basic html, or even just have some time to kill, we'd like your help! This is the way it will work:

-Anyone can join this community.
-Anyone can comment to this community, even those without livejournal accounts.
-Anyone can post entries to this community. These entries will however be screened, and will not appear unless approved by a community moderator.

METHOD

This community works on a "QUESTION," "ANSWER," and "FINAL" basis. QUESTION threads are where you volunteer to write information. ANSWER threads are where you submit the information you've written. FINAL threads are just compilations of the answers people have submitted in comments, checked for grammar and ready to go on the website. For example:

A post will be made asking for volunteers for a particular task. "QUESTION: Who wants to translate the character bios on Shonen Jump's official website?" Anyone who wants to help can can sign up by leaving a comment. Signing up doesn't mean that you are the only one allowed to write about whatever, but it does mean that we can avoid too many people doing the same things.

Another post will be made for information. "ANSWER: Leave comments here with the translations of Shonen Jump's official website." Posting an ANSWER is not an absolute guarentee that your information will make it into the FAQ, but we really aren't too picky. Please make sure that all words are spelled correctly and that your answer is concise and well-written. The most important criterion is clarity. In other words, you should be easy to understand.

Finally, if you created an ANSWER post, you are in charge of that section. It is up to you to go through the comments, pick out whichever ones look okay (remember: we aren't super picky), do some minor edits, and make a new FINAL post. "FINAL: translations of the character bios on Shonen Jump's official website." Anything in that post will eventually make it onto the website.

We will continue in this way until we can't think of anything else worth adding to the FAQ. Or, you know, we get bored. (I'm making this all sound very official, aren't I? It isn't. I just enjoy being organized and listening to myself talk.)

Everyone who submits anything will be credited, under whatever name they'd like and with a link to wherever they want. Interested? Join the community!
