This time, I'm building the growing environment inside the tent.
(I introduced the items I bought in a previous post!)
1. Build a grow tent
First, I tried to build a grow tent. It was easy to assemble and took only about 15 minutes.
π
2. Set a shelf
Then, I placed the shelf inside the tent. It's a bit smaller than I expected, but I think it's enough for the prototype.
It has three tiers, I will first use only the second tier and expand it later.
π
After that, I installed the light at the bottom of the first-tier.
3. Plant the seeds!
In this time, I decided to build a DWC-based hydroponic system, so please imagine securing the plants to a piece of Styrofoam floating on nutrient.
Firstly, make holes with a radius of 1.5 cm in the styrofoam board.
Youβll need to determine the spacing between holes based on the type of plant. Since I am planting perilla and baby leaf green seeds this time, Iβll space the holes 15 cm apart for the perilla and 5 cm apart for the baby leaf greens, as recommended.
π
Cut the sponge into 2-cm squares. (Cut them slightly larger than the holes to ensure the sponge stays securely in place.)
π
Make a cross-shaped slit in the sponge, soak it thoroughly, and then place the seeds inside.
π
Fill the tray with water so that the bottom of the sponge is just barely touching the water.
π
4. Set everything inside the tent
Set these things inside the tent and turn on the light.
I'll wait until the plants sprout. I can't wait!
π
The next day, I saw something white starting to sprout from the seeds!!
π
I feel like I'm the parent of these seeds...Iβve already grown attached to them!!!
By the way, I hear it takes about a week for baby greens to sprout.
Letβs hope they grow well.
