Roles control access to all API operations, reports, feeds, and notifications in the Selling Partner API (SP-API). When you create a developer account, you must request and qualify for the specific roles that align with your intended use of the SP-API. Amazon reviews all role requests, with additional scrutiny for restricted roles.
This document helps you determine which role you need to access specific SP-API operations. The following points explain how roles work:
- Each operation requires at least one role from its list of possible roles (unless the operation is marked as grantless).
- For a given operation, you don't need all listed roles; any one of them grants you access.
- Vendors have access to the following roles: Amazon Fulfillment, Amazon Warehousing and Distribution, Brand Analytics, Direct to Consumer Shipping (Restricted), and Product Listing.

In the following sections, when an operation's table lists multiple roles, you must be authorized for at least one of the roles to call the operation. However, operations that access restricted data (PII) typically require both a general role and a restricted role (for example, Direct-to-Consumer Shipping, Tax Invoicing, or Tax Remittance). For complex integrations, get authorization for all relevant roles to avoid authorization errors.
