This community is dedicated to the discussion of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's series Death Note. The depth and intricacy of themes and characterization have long inspired debate and analysis among fans. Here, we can come together to ramble our hearts out talking about good and evil, just and unjust, love and hate, characterization, plot holes, and so forth all related to this imaginative story.
Community Rules 1. No posts unrelated to discussion. This includes fanfiction, icons, downloads, advertisements, intro posts, etc. They do not belong in this community and will be deleted. The whole purpose behind creating this community was to provide a place exclusively for fan discussion, without other posts diluting the fun.
2. This community will undoubtedly spark debate. Expect that someone may disagree with what you say. But we're all fans here, having fun, so disrespect and personal attacks are not what we're going for and won't be tolerated. Nor do we want to see any "I'm right, no exceptions" attitudes, as that is completely incongruent to the purpose of discussion.
3. Spoilers do have to be warned for - in fact, please don't. We will assume by default that everyone here has read the series and seen the anime. If you haven't, do think about whether or not you want to read the posts here.
4. Discussion of the Death Note movies is fine, as is comparisons and cross-analysis. But we will also bear in mind that they had separate creators and are different stories. We won't assume that the characters are the exact same people, so be sure there's no discrepancies in your arguments.
5. Discussion of pairings are okay, be they het, yaoi or yuri. If there is no interaction between the characters in the series, we can discuss potential and character compatibilities. "We didn't see it in the series" is not a solid counterargument.
6. Be sympathetic to the flists of the members. If your post is really long, please put it under an LJ-cut.
7. Remember, if you are devising a fan theory, include evidence. It makes your theory more sound and gives us more to think about. Quote characters, events, etc. (and, if you can, cite the chapter or episode).
8. Silly theories are okay (i.e. L was created in a test tube!) but remember, this isn't a capslock community. Flat out insanity kind of defeats the point. Having fun is great, but let's try to keep it intelligent.
9. Playing devil's advocate is ENCOURAGED! The author of Death Note appears to be very deliberately vague on his/her intentions, which means that the readers are supposed to use their imaginations and look at the series from multiple angles. Feel free to make a counterargument to any post.
10. Don't spam with comments. Some goofing off is fine, but keep on topic. Otherwise, it's obnoxious for other members who want to read the relevant discussion going on.
11. Off topic or blatantly insulting comments/posts can and will be deleted to keep the place clean. We reserve this right, as mods of this community.
12. Remember, we're all fans, and this community is for fun. :) Don't take anything too seriously. Death Note is a hobby, not politics!
