Dear Friends and Fiends,

We received a message from Unheilig's booking agency in Germany a few hours ago, informing us that the US Embassy was late in processing the band's visa paperwork, even though the booking agency submitted it in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, because the Embassy physically places the visa stamp inside an applicant's passport, this means that the band's passports are being held at the Embassy and cannot be returned to them in time for them to board their flight tomorrow. We've spent the last few hours with some of our contacts at the German Embassy here in the US, but the band is, despite all of their best efforts, trapped in the system at the moment. By the time the passports are returned on Monday, it will obviously be too late.

Unheilig is very unhappy about missing their first opportunity to come to the US to play for their many fans here, and they were particularly excited about making their debut at a Dracula's Ball. We're also bummed out because we've seen their show and we knew it would be perfect for a Ball.

Right now we're making arrangements to secure a second band to perform along with The Azoic at this Saturday's event. However, we know that some of you are planning to travel from out of the area into Philly and wanted you to have this news as soon as possible. For those of you who are hardcore Unheilig fans, we hope you'll consider visiting our great city and attending the Ball anyway. It is well worth the trip. If you already have tickets to the Ball but you decide that you're not going to travel to Philly to join us, please email us at concierge (at) draculasball.com before this Saturday.

Our good friends at HBO sent us the following information about their upcoming vampire documentaries, one of which ("A New Type") features interviews and footage shot at Dracula's Ball earlier this year. Here's what they had to say:

If you haven't picked up tickets for Dracula's Ball yet, tonight is quite probably your last chance. There will be NO admission available at the door on Saturday - this Dracula's Ball WILL be sold out in advance. There are a small number of tickets left at Digital Ferret CDs, IsoTank and Ticketmaster. We expect these will likely be gone late tonight or early tomorrow. If you do not have a ticket, there are three ways to get one.

1) Order from Ticketmaster online or pick up in person at your local Ticketmaster outlet (service charges apply)

2) Buy in person at Digital Ferret CDs in Philadelphia (Call 215-925-9259 for hours and location)

3) Order from IsoTank but select "Hold for Pickup at Digital Ferret" as your delivery method. You can then pick up your tickets in person at Digital Ferret at any time, even up to 10pm on the night of the Ball. The web address for IsoTank is http://www.isotank.com

the Blacksun Festival is being held in new Haven, CT next weekend on the 10th, 11th, and 12th - needless to say, there's a lot of amazing bands playing, as well as a great deal of other creative talent being showcased between the djs, art show, and fashion show!

i'd also like to direct your attention to my pet project for this year's Festival, which is a meeting of some of the brightest minds in Dark Alternative and independent music :

Independent labels and musicians face unique challenges in the face of changing media formats. CDs are now going the way of record albums and cassettes as digital compression and file sharing become the new way of distributing music. This forum is to discuss the current state of media and indie music sales, and the future of underground and alternative music distribution. How will the labels survive? How will the artists survive? What steps can be taken to insure that musicians, producers, and investors can thrive in the new climate?
