Ukraine ranked 3rd in total medals and 7th in gold medals at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy), the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) reports.

"For the second time in history, twenty years after the 2006 Torino Games, the Paralympics returned to Italy. The XIV Winter Paralympic Games took place from March 6 to 15, 2026, in the cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italian Republic). These Games were significant as they marked the 50th anniversary of the first Winter Paralympic Games," the Committee’s statement reads.

It is noted that China presented the largest number of athletes across six sports—70 athletes—while significant teams were also represented by the USA (68 athletes), Canada (46 athletes), and Italy (42 athletes). Ukraine ranked 7th among participating countries in terms of delegation size for the 2026 Games.

"For Ukraine, these Games were the eighth Winter Paralympics in the history of the national team’s participation and the second Games where preparation and performance took place under martial law in Ukraine," the NPC recalled.

Ukrainian athletes competed for 34 sets of medals out of 79 offered in the Games program, participating in three out of the six sports presented: Para cross-country skiing, Para biathlon, and Para alpine skiing (including Para snowboarding).

Following the XIV Winter Paralympic Games, Ukrainian athletes won 19 medals: 3 gold, 8 silver, and 8 bronze. In the overall team standings, Ukraine took 3rd place for the total number of medals and 7th place for the number of gold medals.

Specifically, in the Para biathlon competitions, 18 sets of medals were contested. Ukrainian athletes secured 16 medals: 3 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze. Based on the Para biathlon results, Ukraine ranked 2nd in gold medals and 1st in total medals. In Para cross-country skiing, Ukrainian athletes competed for 15 out of 20 possible medal sets and won 3 medals: 2 silver and 1 bronze, placing Ukraine 9th among 31 countries.

The top performers at the Games were: Oleksandra Kononova – 5 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze); Taras Rad – 4 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze); and Oleksandr Kazik with guide Serhii Kucheriavyi – 3 medals (1 gold, 2 silver). Additionally, 9 Ukrainian athletes finished just short of the podium in fourth place.

"The XIV Winter Paralympic Games were another confirmation of the high level of the national Paralympic team of Ukraine, which even in war conditions continues to demonstrate stable results among the world’s strongest teams. These Games were more than just a struggle for medals for the Ukrainian team. In every start and every finish, our athletes defended much more—Ukraine’s right to peace, freedom, and dignity," the Committee emphasized.

Reference: Ukrainian athletes won a record 29 medals at the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing (China), where Ukraine took second place with 11 gold, 10 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Over the course of participating in eight Winter Paralympics, Ukrainian athletes have won a total of 160 medals: 41 gold, 59 silver, and 60 bronze. Based on the results of the last six Winter Paralympics (2006–2026), Ukraine’s national team consistently ranks in the TOP-3 worldwide for total medals won.
