- 28 November β opening of Baylis's Royal Colosseum Theatre and Opera House, Glasgow, which becomes the Theatre Royal, Glasgow in May 1869.[2]
- Edinburgh Crystal glass is first manufactured, by the Edinburgh and Leith Flint Glass Company.
