Domus Academy is a private school of design in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. It offers post-graduate and professional courses in fashion, industrial design, and design management.[1]: 132  It is not listed by the Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca, the Italian ministry of education, among the institutions authorised to award degrees in music, dance and the arts.[2]

History

[edit]

Domus Academy was founded in 1982[3] by the Mazzocchi family, owners of Editoriale Domus [it], which publishes Domus and Quattroruote magazines.[4] Maria Grazia Mazzocchi was president of the school.[4] Gianfranco Ferré was on the staff from 1983 to 1989,[5][6] and Andrea Branzi was cultural director for the first ten years.[4] In 2009 the school was bought by Laureate Education of Baltimore, Maryland for an estimated ten million euros.[4] In 2018 Laureate sold it to the British group Galileo Global Education.[7]

The institution received the Compasso d'Oro award from the ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale in 1994[8].

Programs and accreditation

[edit]

The Academic master's degree is issued by NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, which is on the list of institutions authorised by the MIUR to issue Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance.[2]

Recognitions

Over the years, the school has been recognised by rankings worldwide, including those by Business Week, Frame Publishers[9], Domus Magazine[10], and Azure Magazine[11].
