Michael Agwi (born 4 September 2003) is an Irish tennis player.
Agwi has a career high ATP singles ranking of 407 achieved on 23 December 2024. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of 1139 achieved on 18 November 2024.[1]
Career
[edit]Agwi made his ATP main draw debut at the 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships after receiving a wildcard into the doubles main draw with Osgar O'Hoisin.[citation needed]
He has won five singles titles on the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour, beginning with an M15 title in Germany in early 2024, becoming the first Irish player in 5 years to win an ITF singles title.[2]
In March 2024, Agwi qualified for his first ATP Challenger Tour main draw at the Tennis Challenger Hamburg, defeating Cem Δ°lkel to claim his first Challenger main draw win. In the second round, he claimed his first win against a top 200 player, defeating the tournament's eighth seed and former top 50 player Marc-Andrea HΓΌsler to reach his first Challenger quarterfinal.[3]
International representation
[edit]Agwi represents Ireland at the Davis Cup, where he has a W/L record of 2β4.[4] In February 2024, he was a member of the Irish team which was defeated by Austria in the World Group I play-offs in Limerick, losing both his matches against Dominic Thiem[5][6][7] and Lucas Miedler.[8][9][10]
