I added some citation needed tags in places that were missing a citation, which need to be resolved. Earwig did detect some copyright concerns, but I think the other sites copied from Wikipedia. Z1720 (talk) 18:20, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[]
@Z1720, this was discussed in the GA review as well. Each statement (like XYZ is a franchise based on the city) has its own article , so it was considered WP:BLUE. Kpddg (talk) 10:22, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[]
- I took a look at the statements, and I would not consider them WP:BLUE. Furthermore, BLUE is an essay, which means it is "the opinion or advice of an editor or group of editors for which widespread consensus has not been established." (WP:POLICIES). Since DYK articles appear on the Main Page, there are stricter rules about what needs to be in the articles, and thus these statements will need citations to conform to WP:V. Proposal: Municipal finance section (summary format)
[edit]I propose adding a brief Municipal finance section based on audited data published on the CityFinance Portal maintained by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The earlier version was reverted as being too detailed and report-like. Below is a revised summary-style alternative for discussion.
Proposed text for article:
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) manages municipal finances in Bengaluru. According to audited financial statements published on the CityFinance Bengaluru page by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, BBMP recorded revenue receipts of approximately ₹5,587 crore and expenditure of ₹6,465 crore during FY 2021–22. Own-source income formed the largest share of revenue.[1]
For context: I tested a more detailed municipal-finance format on Indore and Bikaner to understand how much financial detail is appropriate for city articles. I recognise that those pages may also require refinement and I am open to aligning all of them based on guidance here.
If appropriate, would a very small summary table (e.g. revenue and expenditure for the latest year only) be acceptable here?

Janaagraha Wiki (talk) 13:02, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[]
- It has been summarised as follows in the corresponding section. "As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the BBMP had a revenue of ₹55.87 billion (US$660 million) and an expenditure of ₹64.65 billion (US$760 million) in 2021–22." Regarding the part on the "own source income", you can mention the split in words but need to add a little bit on what is meant by own source income etc., backed by sources. Also, BBMP does not manage the city anymore, has been superseded by a different authority, and if there is updated data available for the later years, it can be updated. Also, in my opinion, pie chart or a table of historical data does not add much value as it is simply cluttering the section, and does not add significant value in the overall scheme of things, as the article is about the city and not the administration. Edit request about the city's skyline
[edit]please add a better skyline photo of the city like there were previously because it creates a better impression about the city. Previously I have seen that the city's skyline photos were much better but now they are only focussing on ub city. I hope u would understand my request.~2025-43112-14 (talk) 05:05, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[]
Bengaluru name in introduction line
[edit]in the first line, its mentioned that "Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore", its supposed to be "Bengaluru, formerly known as Bangalore" or "Bengaluru, earlier known as Bangalore". Can anyone pls update it SMIndian (talk) 12:51, 10 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- The city is widely still referred to as Bangalore, even more so than Bengaluru in common usage (the previous article move was very rushed imo) AlbusWulfricDumbledore (talk) 09:21, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- Edit: to expand - meant this to mean it was "questionable" - considering the balance of opinions was not clearly favorable, nor the strength of the arguments seeing as it remains extremely common in English usage in my opinion
- AlbusWulfricDumbledore (talk) 16:30, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- you said that, Bangalore is more widely used compared to Bengaluru, can you pls cite some of the authentic sources where its getting used as Bangalore. Also you mentioned that, even though the page after 10 years of official name change, you still find that it's very rushed move. Can you pls specify, whats the ideal time duration for page move normally? Is it 20 years, 30 years or more? SMIndian (talk) 08:30, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- Note: refer to reply above AlbusWulfricDumbledore (talk) 09:57, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- Not too bothered about article move, only meant that as it wasn't clearly convincing before it was closed. Arguments exist for both sides, and "Bengaluru" does seem to be more common in Indian English publications but should definitely be kept as "also known" as it remains in usage, so for your first part of your reply, some recent examples:

- Thank you so much for highlighting these newsletters. We will inform them and this will help in reducing that inconsistent usage of name of the city. SMIndian (talk) 10:38, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- I agree, there is some continued use of Bangalore, but I'm not sure that 1 November 2014 to 27 November 2024 is "very rushed". - Arjayay (talk) 10:46, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[]
Requested move 13 June 2026
[edit]| 👁 Image | It was proposed in this section that Bengaluru be renamed and moved to BangaloreBangalore.
result: Move logs: source title · target title

Bengaluru → BangaloreBangalore – As per WP:COMMONNAME, the common name should be used, not necessarily the official name. ‘Bangalore’ is the more common name, and is used by the preponderance of reliable sources.

- Oppose, no proof provided. The original RM did have COMMONNAME evidence, and per WP:TITLEVAR can be limited to Indian English sources, so WP:NAMECHANGES met. The original RM did not use a solely OFFICIALNAME argument in its proposal or in closing, as claimed here. DankJae 21:31, 13 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- Oppose; though i think the move was not correct at the time, it was clear that it was going to be correct at some point in the future, and it absolutely is not worth the upheaval of another change. In particular, i dislike what feel like pointless moves when redirects exist, are cheap, and solve the issue for a reader who doesn't know the new name ~ LindsayHello 08:22, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- Comment both versions of the name are about equally common in Google news searches. Last 12 months (each search excludes wiki and the other version of the name): "Bangalore" 300, "Bengaluru" 300; 1 January to 13 June 2026: "Bangalore" 300, "Bengaluru" 300. But I think that the raw numbers are misleading because the quality of the search results is higher on the 30th page for "Bengaluru" than for "Bangalore". I think that the best evidence in favour of "Bangalore" instead of "Bengaluru" comes from Ngrams with smoothing switched off - note that "Bengaluru" has always been the Kannada-language name for the city, and so could be expected to mentioned in books written before 2014. Ngrams are relevant evidence - the official name for the city changed in late 2014, so that "Bangalore" was about twice as common as "Bengaluru" in 2021-22 is significant.-- Toddy1 (talk) 09:12, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[]
- Oppose No evidence provided in support of overturning the previous RM consensus. I cannot see what has changed since 2024. AusLondonder (talk) 21:05, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[]
