Tochtepec is a town and its surrounding municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla.[1] Its name derives from the Nahuatl words tochtli (rabbit) and tepetl (hill).[2]

In the 2020 census, the municipality reported a total population of 22,454, up 14% from 2010.[3]

Tochtepec is one of Puebla's 217 municipalities, with the town of Tochtepec functioning as its administrative center.[4] Inhabited by Nahua communities since at least 1000 AD and later conquered by the Tolteca-Chichimeca around 1179, it was officially designated a free municipality in 1895, governed by a local administration that includes a municipal presidency and various departments, including public security.[4] As part of the broader Puebla region, specifically within the Angelópolis area, Tochtepec contributes to regional development through local initiatives in economic growth, health, and education.[5]
