Etymology

An Oscan loanword, from Proto-Italic *gʷrūtos, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷréh₂us (heavy). Cognate with Ancient Greek βαρύς (barús), Persian گران (gerân) and Sanskrit गुरु (gurú). See also Latin gravis.[1]
