Latvia's best school meals are in Jelgava
The results of the competition were discussed on the Latvian Television programme "Morning Panorama" by Guna Bīlande, project manager of the "Best School Caterer in Latvia" competition, and Mārtiņš Cimermanis, chairman of the board of the Rural Advisory and Education Centre.
Bīlande said that nearly 1,100 applications were received for this year’s competition, which is the highest number of applications in the competition’s four-year history.
Winners of the “Best School Caterer in Latvia” competition:
- In the Kurzeme region – Kandava Kārlis Mīlenbahs High School
- In the Latgale region – Jānis Eglītis Preiļi State Gymnasium
- In the Vidzeme region – Jauno Līderu High School
- In the Zemgale region – Jelgava Central Secondary School
- In Rīga – Rīga High School No. 45
- Nationwide – Jelgava Technology Secondary School
On the Latvian Radio program "Labrīt," Katrīna Zariņa, Chair of the Board of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK), said that the LTRK Special Award was granted to the cafeteria staff at Jēkabpils Secondary School No. 2, as well as at Jēkabpils Secondary School No. 3.
At the same time, Talsi Secondary School was also awarded a special prize, said Cimermanis: this school uses the most food grown by local farmers.
