Latvia's Radio and Television Tower to be renovated
By July, the Latvian State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC) plans to sign a contract with contractors to begin work on the interior renovation of the radio and television tower.
LVRTC Board Chairman Ģirts Ozols said that construction is scheduled to be completed within three years. During this time, the tower’s operations will not be disrupted. But once construction is complete, the building, which has been closed to visitors since 2019, will reopen its doors.
"The structures of the first, second, and third floors, as well as the public area, will be restored. The tower’s top two sections and the technical area, which forms the tower’s central triangle, will remain untouched," Ozols noted.
Following the restoration, residents will have access to viewing platforms, spaces for hosting events, and the opportunity to learn about the historic building’s story. It will also be possible to walk along the tower’s structure using a safety rope.
The competition was won by the project from the architectural firm Vincents.
