State award recipients announced
The Chapter of Orders – part of the Presidential Chancellery – has decided to award several persons in various fields with the highest awards of the Latvian state – the Order of the Three Stars, the Order of Viesturs and the Cross of Recognition.
The awards will be presented on the Day of the Restoration of the Independence of the Republic of Latvia – May 4, the Chancellery announced. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Latvian Television.
"These are people whose outstanding talent and creative contribution have received wide international recognition and are a significant contribution to shaping Latvia's image in the world. These are people whose lifetime achievements have influenced the entire Latvian society," the Office of the President stated.
The best-known names on the list are probably composer Pēteris Vasks and business woman Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnere, founder of the Madara cosmetics brand. The full list of recipients is here.
