| | "This Velvet Glove" by Red Hot Chili Peppers | ] | *I’m going to try and start doing one of these a day and showing some support for my fellow writerly types, depending on my schedule, of course. J
Now, I don't normally do this sort of thing, but sometimes, you just read something that is so good, that you feel compelled to convey your thoughts and your feelings about it into words, and expect the rest of the world, or, in this case, LiveJournal, to read it.
Now, I'm a writer, by nature, long before I ever got sucked into the whole RPG thing, and so I'm sort of pretentious in my own right, enough to believe anyone would even want to read what I have to say. I guess if you are in fact reading this, I'm not that bad after all. :)
What drew me to this game, is that the particular ship is not conventional, and it's not that I'm exactly all about conventional ships either. My all time favorite is Fuffy. (Faith and Buffy for the unenlightened.) Secondly, I loved Buffy and Angel, and outside of Buffy suddenly realizing if she coulddn't be with Angel, then she would only be with Faith, then I wasn't really a fan of Buffy being with anyone.
Riley, in my opion, was a loser. Don't even get me started on Spuffy...
Anyways, back to the Wuffy, because in my humble opinion, the Wuffy is good.
I wasn't so sure at first. I was kind of like, this is strange, and I'm not so sure... I mean, Buffy is my idol, my hero. You always want your hero to end up with the the perfect person, as they ride off into that proverbial sunset, with some sweeping score accompanying the breathaking cinematography and Clint Eastwood's directing. (Let's face it, Joss never won an Oscar AND he killed Tara, he's OUT of my little scenario)
But then, in 👁 Image just_fading, it's not exactly like that, because if it was, it would be like every other one on one and game out there. A lot of the AUs or unconventional couples out there claim to be different on that status alone, but deep down, they're all the same. Non canon in concept, but conceptually canon. And always making me say; Bored now.
Just Fading doesn't just break that mold, it pours acid into so that it crumbles, rendering impossible to be malleable again.
The game started out canon enough, with Buffy in Rome, which I love because I love things that explore the post-Chosen possibilities, and this is the canon one.
What I love most about this game is that it’s all very internal monologue. As I’m reading Buffy’s part, I can hear her voice in my head, because it’s so well written in the first person sense, like she’s thinking it exactly as it’s so eloquently written. And the exact same with Wesley. And it’s so deep too. I think the writers venture very deep into the characters psyche offering you intricate views that go far beyond the canon concepts of what was seen on BtVS and AtS.
What I also love about this particular story, is there’s nothing pointless to it, there’s nothing graphic, or gratuitous. There is a way of making even things that are downright gritty and ugly, still shine, and seem beautiful, and I think that this game does it.
Though the romance isn’t canon, the characters themselves are very strictly true to the canon concepts down to the impeccable dialogue, and what you would even expect their thoughts to be. Even their physical descriptions, from their points of views, are so on the mark, it’s an absolute bulls eye.
Memorable quotes:
"As for your home, um...actually the apartment you had is still here," I pulled out a manilla folder and started reading through it. "Um...yup. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce Bachelor Pad, complete with King-Sized...oh." I stopped reading and blushed a bit. "Um...sorry. Faith wrote up that report." I flipped to another page, looking down and coughing a bit. ~Buffy
* I took a deep breath, and winced as the motion tugged just a bit harder than I'd intended against my stitches.
"Look, I appreciate that you've a most unique perspective on these sorts of things, Buffy, but..."
Sighing, I struggled to put what I was feeling into the right words.
"But you've a disntinct advantage here-- yes, believe me, I understand that it will always be worth fighting for this world... but I don't have anyone left, not to fight for, or to fight with. You've Dawn, and Giles, and the others. You have a family." ~Wesley

http://www.livejournal.com/community/just_fading/2225.html This thread is particularly adorable
Love the whole last name basis as well.
Whats is perhaps most notable, as I continue to take more and more minutes of your lives here with my muchly warranted praise for this fabulous community, is that the progression of the relationship in this community is without a doubt the most realistic, and most well done I have seen in any community. Not too quick, and without dragging either, it’s just been the perfect pace, and it just… it makes sense. They’re not just doing it just to do it, or making up some ridiculous concept, and slapping it up and running with it, but they have actually taken the time to formulate and sculpt this beautiful and well crafted relationship between these two unordinary people with unordinary lives who might not have otherwise ended up together.
And you know, there won’t be any ride off into the sunset. ‘Cause they’re already there, and because the sun never sets on a story likes this.
Bravissimo!
