Independent, active and connected members of society

We believe in a society where people with a learning disability and those with a learning disability on the autistic spectrum are independent, active and connected members of society, where they have a meaningful occupation, and where their contribution is recognised and valued.

To help build this society, we run farm-based programmes where people can engage in purposeful, outdoor activities that improve physical health and well-being, foster a sense of community, and allow the development and strengthening of skills and abilities. We have seen that this can change people’s lives.

FarmAbility runs a farm-based programme for adults with autism and/or learning disabilities on working farms and green spaces in Oxfordshire.

The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey 👁 The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, visited Oxford last week to hear first-hand from people on the frontline of Oxfordshire’s charitable sector, at an event convened by Oxfordshire Community Foundation (OCF). FarmAbility's CEO, Coralie Hopwood (front row, fourth from the left) attended this meeting alongside 9 other charity leaders from Oxfordshire. The discussion explored the impact of inflation and the ongoing cost‑of‑living crisis, as well as the emerging issues likely to shape the next 12 months for charities and the people they support. Coralie said “I was delighted to represent FarmAbility and our community at this Bank of England national Community Forum session. I raised in particular the alarming trend of seeing local authority support drop away from learning disabled people as they age, with the apparent assumption that simply surviving, not thriving, is sufficient in later years. It was great to meet other leaders from the sector too and hear their reflections and to be able to put our experiences to the Bank of England team.” Read more about the session here (we'll also put the link in our bio): https://oxfordshire.org/bank-of-england-governor-meets-oxfordshire-charities/ Thank you to OCF for bringing together the ten organisations and the senior economic advisers from @bankofengland for such a valuable conversation at the amazing Barton Neighbourhood Centre. #news #communityforum #bankofengland #oxfordshirecharities #farmability
