1 each

Spanish - Mexico
Hello,

I am translating instructions targeted to patients, related to drug prescriptions:

Take 1 pill (1 each total) every 2 hours. Tome 1 pastilla (1 (?) total cada 2 horas.
Inject 1 each one time each day. Inyéctelo (?) una vez al día
Inhale 1 each if needed. Inhale (?) si es necesario.

Since there are not 2 drugs, I don't understand what does "1 each" mean.

Any idea, please?
I am puzzled by the instructions in English also. (Were these written by a native English speaker?) But the crucial question is : can you get in touch with the prescription writer and get clarification? You must do anything you can do to find out what was meant. Unclear or incorrect instructions on a prescription sets up a potential disaster.
Thank you for your wise advice, LVRBC. Yes, I am aware it's crucial do a flawless job, but I asked just to make sure I am not overlooking something obvious out of ignorance (one never knows everything). I will certainly ask the writer.

This looks to me like an automated/computerized order system in which the units are set out in a predetermined way (and often the programs are written by nonmedical programmers).

I agree that the source should be clarified as well as the intended meaning. If it's the product of a computerized system that would be easier to interpret.

Gracias, ChemaSaltasebes.
