Hello

It's a documentary about helicopters.
The narrator is doing some practice with the simulator before flying with the real helicopter.
The instructor says to him, "We gonna start slowly, adding collective."
What is this "collective" thing?
I am not finding anything in vocabulary.

What little I've gleaned from Google suggests that it's short for "adding collective pitch to the rotor blades" to "collect" more air, which causes the helicopter to rise.

You can control the angle of the rotor blades
with this collective stick, as I see from the movie.
