Aging population?

An example - the UK.

It basically means that a lot of people were born at a certain time, such as after world war 2, so there were a lot of babies born. The number of babies being born after, let's say 10 years, decreased and so the babies born during the "baby boom" time (approx 1945-1955) are now around 60 years old so a large proportion of the UK population is older - the population is ageing. it is an ageing population.

I hope that was written in a way, which is easy to understand. If not I apologise. πŸ‘ Smile :)
I believe 'he' refers to the rise of the average age of a country's population. Maybe the most correct term is: population aging, but I am not sure about that, and you should have posted the context. It would be helpful.

Maybe this article can make it clearer: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?ID=949
The article above uses the word "ageing", while Americans would prefer the word "aging".

Anyway, the context would be appreciated.
Hello Sam...

the term 'aging population' refers to the the composition of the population as a whole...

in adddition to what Smarsh 336 and Radio FM have posted above it might be helpful to think about the term 'aging population' in a dynamic way...

an aging population refers to the rates of changes...an upward shift in the composition of the entire population with respect to age...therefore an increase in the mean and/or median age of that population...young people as a percentage of the population is declining while older people as a percentage of the population is increasing...

hope it's helpful...
