My uncle received a letter from the Italian consulate where he lives in the U.S. It says something to the effect that he is not registered at the consulate, but only in his "muncipality of origin (AIRE)" or, in Italian, "Anagrafe del suo Comune di origine (AIRE)."

Does anyone know what the letters AIRE stand for in Italian, and their English translation? Thank you to anyone who can help. (Hope you're available, uinni and lookup 👁 Smile :)
, but I welcome a reply from anyone who knows.)
Hi there Mona Lisa! Well, AIRE comes to:

Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all´Estero

Something like: Italian citizens Living Abroad Register

Hope it´s useful!

Cheers! 👁 Wink ;)

Have a look here, for example.
When one is acknowledged as an Italian citizen by the Italian government, s/he is enrolled in that registry for the Italian law provides for the residence registration of any Italian citizen (whether s/he actually lives in Italy or in a foreign country).
