Dear all:
What is the exact meaning of "appropriately" in the following passage? It is from the book The East India Company in Persia by Peter Good, p. 133.

The Company promised to take a third of the total, taking advantage of a shortage of silk coming via the Mediterranean, but this plan was met with coldness or outright hostility from the Callendar family. This was presumably due to the huge potential costs involved and the reliance on the Armenians’ expertise in pricing and selling the silk appropriately.

It is somewhat ambiguous for me. Does "appropriately" mean the Company's reliance on the Armenians' expertise was not in a good manner?

Many thanks in advance.

Peter Good probably intended appropriately to mean something like efficiently or effectively in that sentence. The Callender family wasn't happy with the deal because the potential cost was high. Also, the family didn't want to have to depend on the Armenians to price and sell the silk.
The idea may be "the Armenians' expertise in establishing the right price and marketing the silk successfully," or something like that.
