Assuming / Provided

Hi people!

I'm hesitating over these two sentences:

You can stay PROVIDED you don't smoke

You can stay ASSUMING you don't smoke

I have to choose only one of them but they are so similar to me...any help?

Thanks!
Hi, Mike.

"Provided" sounds reasonable to me in that sentence. "Assuming" is a little odd because you are setting a condition for this person to comply with.

"If" and "as long as" would also work fine: You can stay as long as you don't smoke. You can stay if you don't smoke/if you promise not to smoke.

I agree with you. To me, the most suitable is Provided. Thanks!!
