While reading an article I came across the expression "basic countries" which drew my attention as I firstly thought it was a rude way to name the average rank countries in term of prosperity.
But I assume I misundertood it. Here is the context :
"The EU foreign policy position was a successful tactic and has encouraged the Americans, the Chinese, the basic countries to come forward with their own commitments".
"basic countries" semblent en fait faire référence à la China et aux USA. On pourrait les traduire par "des pays clés", qu'en pensez-vous ?
