Would one translate that as "les compléments de base"
(The context is WW2, where the basic food supplements were produced in the North of France, leaving the South to rely on fruit and wine)

I think it would be: les compléments alimentaires de base.
Isn't compléments alimentaires used nowadays for sportmen who want to put on weight or vegetarians who are taking special pills to compensate their low protein regime?

It seems strange to me to talk of compléments alimentaires in the context of WWII.

Maybe l'approvisionnement en aliments de base.
