big time

Hi,

How can I use this expression: "big time"?

I read it a year ago when the Hungarian PM told us "We have screwed it up, not just a bit, "

big time here = very much, very strongly

Similarly can I say these sentences?

- I like it big time!
- Thank you big time!
- Do I get it wrong, big time?

"big time" or "a big time"?

Would you shed some light on this problem of mine!
You are correct in your usage.

In these context it would always be ", big time".

Note, however, that "to hit the big time" means that you have succeeded to the highest levels of your particular professional/sporting career etc.

E.g. Hugh Jackman (a famous actor) hit the big time in 1998 when he starred nude alongside Vin Diesel.
Do be aware that the use of "big time" this way is colloquial to the point of being slang. It would fit nicely into conversation in a bar. It would sound ridiculous as part of a speech to a legislature.

Last time I heard this:

--You mean A has a crush on B?
--Big time!
