Hi,

Could somebody please tell me what is a boardroom killer? Is it possible to use the phrase in question figuratively? I would really appreciate if someone could enlighten me on this matter. 👁 Smile :)

Karpalo,

Welcome to the forum. I can think of a literal meaning as well as a figurative or metaphorical meaning for the phrase "boardroom killer." If this is a phrase you have encountered somewhere else, please provide the context: the sentence in which you heard or read it, and a sentence or two before and after. If this is a phrase that you have made up, patterned after similar phrases, please provide at least the full sentence in which you would use it.

Hi again,

I'm sorry that I didn't provide the context. I actually encountered this phrase in a soap opera. A woman says: "Don't try to say that you are not a killer. It's just different. Now you are a boardroom killer." Earlier the man has told the woman that he has not killed anyone, even though he was programmed to be a killer.

Could the woman by any means refer to the man's questionable business behavior by calling him a boardroom killer?
I found the transcript of the soap and have pasted it below. The term appears also a few times on google (but often on pdf format) but not being a native speaker, I could not figure out its meaning and leave it to the native speakers. I would assume it means a tough business person both male and female but I am not sure.

I'm not interested in a deal. Stefano programmed me to be a killer, but I haven't killed anyone. I'm not a killer."
"You're a boardroom killer," says Marlena.

2. Women all over world agree that black leather handbags go with just about everything. They can be used to create the high-powered boardroom killer look along with the chic fashionista look among other styles. For less than glamorous occasions, a woman could choose a large tote that will hold everything she needs from toiletries to breakfast cereal.

Much like the weekly Series next Fall, Carolyn and her network of experts provide career and financial advice, as well as discussing a myriad of lifestyle topics that busy working women face every Holiday Season. Typecast as the “boardroom killer” on Trumps Emmy Award Winning Reality Series, Carolyn’s excited to show the world the REAL Carolyn Kepcher, and so is Executive Producer Ron Secreto, in fact he’s banking on it.

I would understand "boardroom killer" as a succinct description of someone who acts, within a business or corporate environment, without mercy or scruples. This person will do anything to achieve his or her business goals. This does not necessarily refer to breaking laws, much less murder, but simply to ruthless behavior.
