Hi,

When you've finished a presentation, someone comes up to you and says to you :" you've butchered it"

What does that mean?
You have made a hot mess of things. You have not made things clearer, but have made them more opaque.
Not necessarily made things worse, but your presentation was so substandard as to have not advanced any new understanding.
Our dictionary can be of great help. πŸ‘ Roll Eyes :rolleyes:

WordReference Random House Unabridged Dictionary of American English Β© 2022
butchβ€’er (bŏŏchβ€²Ι™r),v.t.
  1. to slaughter or dress (animals, fish, or poultry) for market.
  2. to kill indiscriminately or brutally.
  3. to bungle;
    botch: to butcher a job.
It would usually apply to a completely inadequate or messy treatment of the subject matter but could also include dropping things on the floor, mumbling, forgetting what you were going to say, not being properly prepared, bringing the wrong lead for your laptop etc. etc.
