Please tell me what is correct to use calmlier or more calmly when compare, for example

The President spoke ... to Congress than to his helpers.

'More calmly'. We never (or almost never) use the -er ending on adverbs ending in -ly, though it's okay on some adjectives with that ending (friendlier, livelier).

  2. Mike seems more calm after taking the oxycodone.
Version #1 sounds better to me.
