Slovakia. So, I will rather use "building indication number"
Does the document you're working on have a glossary?
No. It is a translation I am proofreading.
In Britain, the census is a record of population, not of buildings. The equivalent here might be survey number, or less likely cadastral number. The term building indication number is unknown in English.

I agree, so the translation was wrong.
We have 2 numbers in Slovakia - supisne a orientacne cislo - 1. indication number (of a building, indicating the number of the building within the whole area/borough/city); 2. street number (of a building),
OR 1. house number / 2. street number.

Do you prefer ior h? The text will be read by an US authority.

Thanks.
I think you need to do a bit of research if you want to do this right. You can't just pick words that sound good and expect them to be meaningful to someone in a different country using a different system. Laws and the vocabulary of property vary from country to country and are highly specific.

In the U.S., you want to start with the concept of a plat map. You might be talking about a plat. If they expect you to talk about plats and you never mention plats then they probably won't have any idea what you're talking about.
