Hello! What does "chamber" in the following context specifically refer to? "In a recent study led by the University of Queensland's Wen Wu, honeybees---whose brains, mind you, are the size of grass seeds---were shown Picassos and Monets paired side by side. Below the prints were two small chambers, one containing sugar water and the other nothing at all." ("What Makes Hemingway Hemingway" by Jessica Love) Thank you!

Two small chambers is fairly vague. I assume that Love used chamber to refer to some sort of enclosed space. This definition for chamber from Collins should be relevant:

an enclosed space; compartment; cavity
chamber
an enclosed space or cavity

It specifically refers to whatever “chambers” were actually used in that experiment. We have no way of knowing exactly what they were like, but the context tells us that:
(a) the chambers were small and could fit under prints of famous paintings;
(b) they were able to hold liquid (sugar water);
(c) the bees could fly into them: “Bees couldn’t see or smell whether a given chamber held the succulent treat until they’d already flown inside it.”
