He wanted to run from it, to get the hell out of that clanging darkness without having to answer, but he could not rise against the battering of her words.

What does clanging darkness mean?
Does 'clanging' refer to the endlessness of the darkness or the sound that echoes in it?

Please help. Thank you.
There isn't enough context in your question for me to be sure what "clanging darkness" is supposed to mean. Does something noisy happen that fills the night with clanging sounds?

There is a woman talking in the background. Is it possible to describe human voice instead of metal with 'clanging'?
Thank you.

Yes. When used to describe a human voice, "clanging" should mean that the voice was loud and unpleasant.
Ah, thank you! I thought clanging is only used to describe the sound metal makes.
