Clarify whether

Greetings,

Being a transitive verb, the verb 'clarfiy' needs an object. Now my question is whether I can use it as follows:

Can you clarify whether this word is countable or uncountable?

If not, does 'elaborate' do the job? Any better alternatives?

Thanks
Can .......you ......clarify {whether this word is countable or uncountable}?
Modal ..subject ...verb ...............................object
The object is often implied. "Let me clarify" is perfectly understandable as referring to a statement just made by a speaker (for example).
I don't think that whether a word is countable or uncountable is something to be "clarified". It's either one or the other.

A statement (as JAQT says) may be something to clarify. Or a position.
Thanks JAQT and Parla.

Actually this question was raised in my other thread where I was at a loss to know whether 'cinema' was a countable or uncountable noun.
If it doesn't work in that context, may I know your better options ?

Thanks
