What do you say to mean "a place where you can wash and dry your clothes in machines that you operate by putting in coins"? Do you call the place a "coin laundry"?

Speaking for myself, I've never called them coin laundries, and in fact in some more modern ones you get an electronic card that you can charge with credit and then swipe to use the washers and driers -- no coins involved. I've always called them laundromats.
I'd call that a launderette (Click): "Brit NZ a commercial establishment where clothes can be washed and dried, using coin-operated machines"

Also called (US, Canadian, and NZ): Laundromat
Like Beryl, I'd call it a launderette. They're very much on the decline here in the UK.
Ah. But it was a trade name, was Launderette, and thus subject to the logic of commerce.
