Hi all! I got a little bit confusing as to find out mistakes in these sentences, which i'll list below
1. Don't break too suddenly on icy roads.
2. We were all devastated by the news of his death.
3. The magistrate would not accept to grant the defendant bail.
Thanks in advance for those helping me !
Wow, where to start? I'll help you with #1. I believe you have misused the verb "to break" where you should have used "to brake". The first verb indicates destruction to a greater or lesser degree. The second verb indicates the application of friction to slow the rotary motion of a wheel of some sort.
Yeah, i took them from my CPE book and i had difficulty finding the exact answers. To 1, i think there exists an error to use the word "suddenly" but i can't find a subtitute. To 2, i really got no ideas. And the last one, i prefer to using "agree" than using "accept" but i cant find the generalisation for it 👁 Frown :(
The "suddenly" word is fine; it's your verb that is incorrect. Check the definitions of "to break" and "to brake".
There is nothing wrong with #2.

The words "accept to" should be removed from #3.
You could remove 'accept to' from #3, though it would change the meaning slightly.

The change Karmin02 suggests would also work:
3. The magistrate would not agree to grant the defendant bail.
