contested

Hello!
I have been using wordreference (and the useful forum) for a while, but this is the first time I ask a question.

I am editing the translation of a book, the topic of the book is Cultural industries and one sentence says:

"Throughout this book, I argue for a view of the cultural industries and the texts they produce as complex, ambivalent and contested."

I am having a hard time in finding a good translation for contested, as "contestate" does not sound right to me. What do you think? I was thinking about using the word "controverse", would it be right?

Discutibili?

Grazie per l'aiuto, "discutibili" mi sembra già meglio di "contestate" anche se non sono ancora convinta al 100% del modo in cui l'autore usa il termine in quel frangente.

Comunque forse va meglio "controverse"; col mio "discutibili" speravo di innescare una catena di sinonimi...

Io avevo pensato sfaccettate, ma non vorrei travisare...
