Does the word acorn comes from "corn"? I expected these hard fruits of common trees are called by such word as chestnut which contain "nut" instead of "corn". Some dictionary says hard ones are nut and soft ones corn. But fruit of these trees are ushually hard. I was a bit surprised by the word acorn.
No, 'acorn' and 'corn' are not related. It's a coincidence. (The word might have been influenced in its exact shape a bit by 'corn'.)
