Hi again!

I need help with that collocation. It's part of a book dedication. The book is a thriller.

'I’ll never figure out why Gerda said yes to me. But now your family has a .'

Thanks.
More specific context is always good: what is the name of the book and author?

Homes can be so large that they have wings -- groups of rooms (just as hospitals have wings). He's saying that with his addition to the family, the family home now has a wing dedicated to crazy people (him) which it didn't have before.

WR dictionary: wing: 4 a part of a large building, especially one that projects from the main part.
For me, a wing of the family is the same as a branch of the family.

I think that, just as branch is derived from the concept of a family tree as another word for a geneological chart, a wing of the family does derive its meaning from an extension of a house.

The house represents the entire family, and a wing of the family represents a certain part of that family.

However, since I don't know the background of the story, it's always possible that I'm wrong! 👁 Smile :)
