Data Dial

Hello everybody,

I'm translating a bok about the Solar System from English into Italian.

But I can't find the exact meaning of DATA DIAL... is it a kind of a wheel with all the planets on it?

And also what do they mean with COLOURED MARKER? Is it a light, a pen or just a coloured indication?

I only have the PDF and not the book in my hands.

Please, help!!!

Thank you in advance

Bye

Mimmina

The context is the following:

How to use this book

The Solar System

Study the main picture on each spread.
A coloured marker tells you which Data Dial to use and which object to look for.
Turn the indicated dial or dials until the object in the top window matches the one in the main picture.
The other windows in the Data Dial will then give you important key facts about the object.
Have fun comparing key facts or use them to play ‘whose fact wins’ games with friends and family.

It seems as though the book comes with one or more "devices" which might, for example, show you where to look in the sky for a particular star or planet. As it happens, I have just such a book. The "device" consists of two round pieces of cardboard held together at the centre by a rivet. The upper piece has cutouts in it so you can see the printing on the lower piece. I've never heard the expression "data dial," but if I needed a name for such a device, I might just come up with "data dial."

The "coloured marker" is almost certainly just some sort of printed symbol.
This one has nothing to do with astronomy, but I imagine it's the kind of thing Lexiphile is talking about. Here's another, which is astrological.
