Deserving

Penso che meritola tutto che ottene/merita tutto che ottene.

Are either of these acceptable renditions, if not (making the assumption you can see what I am trying to say) is there an Italian expression that would suffice.

GaryD
Please write also the sentence in English, because this is completely wrong and may be referred to different persons. My guess:

I think he deserves everything he gets
Penso che meriti tutto ciΓ² che ottiene
systema, you have guessed what I was trying to say - although I was attempting to use the formal 'you' ie 'I think you deserve everything you get'.

**ellie** said:
Penso che ognuno ottenga quello che merita
Does this not translate more as 'everyone gets what they deserve'?

I was looking for a phrase directed specifically at an individual ie deserve what you get and, I may be trying to be too subtle but, is there a difference between getting what you deserve and deserving what you get?πŸ‘ Confused

GaryD
Yes there is a difference. Anyway what you are looking for may be: Meriti quello che ottieni, very different from: Ottieni sempre quello che meriti. Hmm actually a little bit different. Ohh I'm changing my mind while writing, veeeeeeeeery little difference! eheh
ellie, thank you for your replies they actually answer two questions 1) it gives me a way to say it, which at least would convey the meaning (I have no actual plans to say it in the immediate future it was as more of an intellectual exercise, I try to turn everyday phrases into Italian so as to aid learning - much to the annoyance of my wife!πŸ‘ Wink ;)
) and 2) it would appear that there is no equivalent expression in Italian!

grazie mille
