Hello! I read a text about smoking, and I faced a phrase I cannot understand. here is a background:

(title) - Developmental Assets as protective factors against adolescent cigarette smoking.

I found only financial definition of the word Asset, so I can't figure out what does it exactly mean.
"Developmental assets" is a piece of sociology jargon meaning, roughly, the support and guidance that youth workers and teachers can provide to young people during their development, and the values and "life-skills" that the young people have developed already.
would you reword it somehow? the very phrase

Googling something like developmental assets definition can be a good way of finding phrases if they are not in your dictionary.
