Can't figure out the meaning of ditto in this text:

"'The steamer City of Prague, bound from Liverpool to New York, three weeks out with a broken shaft. Principal passenger, Mr. Gordon Doyle; ditto lunatic, Mr. William Jarrett. These two distinguished travellers embarked together, but they are about to part, it being the resolute intention of the former to pitch the latter overboard"

👁 Frown :(

"also lunatic"
William Jarrett is a lunatic and so is Gordon Doyle.
(In the sentence it seems to assume that we know Doyle is a lunatic)

Hi, how can I use Ditto? Can I use it in any case?
You can use "ditto" when someone says something that also applies to you. Like:

Guy: I am so cold out here!!
Girl: Ditto!! (me too)

Girl: It has been such a long week, I am ready for the weekend!
Friend: Ditto! ( me too!)

So I guess it is like saying, " me too".
1. The same as stated above or before.
2. A duplicate; a copy.
3. A pair of small marks ( " ) used to indicated that the word, phrase, or figure given above is to be repeated
Hola:

Principal passenger, Mr. Gordon Doyle; ditto lunatic, Mr. William Jarrett.
Pasajero principal xxx y William Jarrett, lunático.

I found a URL with the text you have posted (I can't paste and copy because according to the rules I'm not allowed unless I've made 30 posts or more,... just found that out)

According to what I found it is Doyle speaking. It would change the translation completely.

I also found a definition of "ditto lunatic" as "rightwing people in this country claiming to know what Jesus would do in every instance",(can't paste and copy for the aforementioned reason) so it might have something to do with a religious attitude. ¿¿?? It would fit in better if it is actually Doyle who's talking cause he would be "the former to pitch the latter overboard".
Hola compañeros,

Para el que tenga curiosidad, esas máquinas que existieron antes de las fotocopiadoras se llamaban (y se llaman), por lo menos en España, MULTICOPISTAS.
Hello,
I can´t understand the meaning of "ditto" in this sentence:
The scene, the scene - the screen’s endless
In style in style... check out my new stress
I’ve seen this stream – did I ditto that?
Like I really care!

I looked up the definition of 'ditto' here because I have just read that an English guy has posted the following on facebook:

-Party guilt.

To which his friends replied:

-A massive 'ditto' LOL
-Don't tell me you are a conservative now!

Just imagine, I thought his friend was referring to the Pokemon before I read your post, so thank you for enlighting me cause the rest makes full sense now!
